October New Years Resolution Recap

October turned out to be quite the successful month. I've continued to make progress towards my resolutions.  Although it does seem that a few of my new years goals will likely not be met, but progress is progress.  Here is how I wrapped up the month of October.

Complete a 5k in 25 minutes.
I haven't reached this goal yet, but it is slightly closer now that I have a shiny new 5k PR of 27:43.  Progress in the right direction.  I still have 2 5k's for the rest of this year (one of which I will attempt to PR at, the other run with a friend)

Yoga 1x a week. (14/52) (27%)
Some at home yoga was done, but still not to an impressive amount.  I'm not sure what my issue is, but I have recently fallen back in love with pilates, I would love it if I could embrace both, but it hasn't seemed to happen yet.

Complete 12 items off of my bucket list. (7/12)(58%)
I didn't anticipate knocking off any bucket list items this month, but surprised myself when I age placed at the 5k in Long Island.  In the interest of full disclosure, the competition was thin, but still - a in is a win!  There were at least more than 3 people in my age group.  (just not a whole lot more...)
Age place at a race

Volunteer 1x a month (6/12) (50%)
I made my way out to volunteer once this month.  I went and sorted bottles and cans for the Albany Humane society.  We had to sort them based off of brands and also pulled off the pop tops for the Ronald McDonald house.  After volunteering, a handful of us went out for lunch.  Overall it was a very positive experience and I could see myself doing it again for sure.

Make my bed 1 morning a week(52/52) Complete! (100%)

Travel outside of the Greater Capital District 1x a month. (9/12) (75%)
While not a new location,  I spent another weekend down in Amagansett with my sister and her family.  It was really great this time of year and I enjoyed it more than I did during my visits in the summer.  Sadly it was my last trip until they return next summer.

Read 33 books (29/33) (88%)
Three books were finished this month.  I liked crossed, but not nearly as much as I liked Matched.  The other two were "eh"  I didn't love extremely loud and incredibly close, I found that the main character was a bit unbelievable and All the summer girls was your standard chick lit.
  1. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - Jonathan Safran Foer
  2. All The Summer Girls - Meg Donohue
  3. Crossed - Ally Condie
Save an additional 100 bucks a month. (0%)
I start a part time job next week but most of that money will go directly towards my Costa Rica fund.  Saving money has eluded me this year.  Any tips are welcomed.

Run in 13 races for 2013 (10/13)  (77%)
Two race were run this month.  My 5k that I PRed at and my very first Trail Half Marathon. I do like these trail races and have already found myself checking out longer distances.
Run for Ross 5k
Hairy Gorilla Trail Half Marathon

Hike 13 High Peaks (15/13) Complete! (100%)
While I've already reached this goal, I went up and hiked 2 more high peaks.  The mountain climbing to date would be 15 ADK high peaks 1 Catskill highpeaks, and 1 ADK Mountain. 17 total.  Still no where near the 26 I though that I could climb in one year!
Hike 13 Catskills 3500 (1/13) (8%)
Still hard to break away from my love of ADK.  Soon though, I can feel it.

Overall still improving, I currently have a completion rate of 58%.  If I were adding the extra mountains and times I've made my bed I would be well over my goal, but lets be realistic!  Progress is being made and new habits are being solidified.  Just a few more weeks to accomplish this lenghthly resolution list.

  1. More people should have goals like you. Sure some of them are what could be considered accomplishments, but a lot of it is just setting yourself up to enjoy life. Good luck getting that 5k down, but keep your awesome perspective on things

    1. thanks! I like list, and by having measurable goals, it's easier to keep track of what i've been up to all year. My 5k time will come eventually. But, probably not in 2013 after all!

  2. You've made so much progress this year and so many of these goals are ones you can build on next year or roll over to next year.
