2013 Goals: January Recap


Since the beginning of the year, I've made some adjustments to my new years resolutions.  I decided that as much as I enjoy following new recipes,  my love for finding new meals ended up costing a lot more in grocery bill.  Since I don't quite have it in me to figure out how to save money and try all new foods every week, I've decided to eliminate this new years resolution.  It doesn't mean that I won't be trying new stuff, it just seemed that 52 might be a bit excessive since I've begun to play with some of my own recipes and have begun to refer back to previously made meals. I've also changed my "one week spending freeze" to become save an additional 100 bucks a month.  Life happens and not spending any money for one week was just not likely to happen.  That being said,  all of my other goal are still in tact.    Now that we're a full 31 days in, lets see how it's all going.

Complete a 5k in 25 minutes. 
I haven't begun working towards this goal directly yet.  I have spent this month strengthening my core and building muscles that I've never had before.  Hopefully that will translate into faster running times in the future.

Yoga 1x a week. (1/52)
Complete fail.  I don't love the yoga instructor that is at my gym.  She love downward dogs and turns it more into a conditioning workout than the stretching and relaxing exercise that I want.  I'll need to suck it up and go anyways.

Complete 12 items off of my bucket list.
I haven't completed anything just yet, but I have bought my tickets for stagecoach and my flight, so that will be happening, in April.  I've also climbed 2 more mountains towards my 46 so I'm making progress on that life goal, but I still have 31 left to do.

Volunteer 1x a month
Nothing yet this month.  Yikes, I am not off to a great start yet this year!

Make my bed 1 morning a week(4/52)
I was up and ready to make my bed this morning, but ended up striping the sheets so I could wash them instead  (and sadly yes, I only have one set of sheets right now)  I'll consider this a success because even making my bed 4 time took focus.

Travel outside of the Greater Capital District 1x a month. (2/12)
Finally, something I'm good at, traveling.  I went to Lake Placid for New Years and then also spent 4 days in North Shore area of Boston for some continued Montessori training.  I didn't blog about my Montessori training because quite frankly every time I go I feel to overwhelmed to process.  Next year, maybe I'll provide more insight into the educational philosophy and life in my classroom

Read 33 books (3/33)
Bam!  Another resolution I'm actually keeping up on.  I've slowed down a bit, only because I'm in a book club and am really making an effort to read and take notes so I can have intelligent things to say.  So far I've read:
  1. The Host- Stephanie Meyer - easy read, can definitely tell its written by Stephanie Meyer.  But I am looking forward to seeing the movie in March
  2. The Happiness Project - Gretchen Rubin - Really disliked this one, Gretchen didn't come off as a like-able person to me. 
  3. This Bright River - Patrick Somerville - I liked this one, but it wasn't amazing.  Slow to start but picked up in the end.  Wouldn't recommend it but also wouldn't be against reading it ( Like I am the Happiness Project)
Save an additional 100 dollars each month (38/1200)
I did not save a full extra hundred this month, but I did save some.  Better than nothing!

Run in 13 races for 2013
No races just yet,  they will come! I did sign up for a race in June but much more on that in the future.

Hike 13 High Peaks (2/13)
I was able to squeeze in two high peaks before this month ended. (Street & Nye)  I suspect I'll be able to reach this goal quite easily before 12/31.

Hike 13 Catskills 3500 
I haven't made it to the Catskills yet.  To be honest, the Catskills intimidate me since i don't feel as comfortable down there as I do up in the ADK.  This will change, but I'll save some of those hikes summer since it's easier to get there early than up north.

I still have my work cut out for me!  I have lots of 2013 goals that I haven't even approached.  Thankfully I still have 334 days to do so!
