I had big plans for 2012. Initially my only running goal for 2012 was to improve my 5k PR time. And then I got greedy. I still wanted to improve my 5k and to run another full marathon and dominate my time. I also secretly planned to run an ultra in early winter all on top of 2 relay races.
Sadly however, it seems that I will need to put several of those goals on hold for now. As I am entering the third week after my mud run/sprained ankle, it has made improvements but it is still sore and painful to walk naturally on.
My slow recovery has a lot to do with my profession, being a teacher makes it challenging to spend time off my foot, especially as I've been trying to make a name for myself at my new school.
So for now, I will no longer be running the Boilermaker. While the race is still about a month away, I don't think running 9 miles a good choice. I don't plan on even trying to run until I have a full pain free week. Since, I am still in a considerable amount of discomfort, I don't foresee running happening next week, and 9 miles in 3 weeks after 4 weeks off sounds like a recipe for re injuring myself.
I still hope to run the relay races in September and October, but I think my marathon goal will switch to a half marathon and the ultra goals will be pushed to the winter.
It's frustrating, but hopefully being over cautious now, will lead to this being the only time I have ankle injuries until my next mud run (which might not ever happen again)
