Today I learned that I can't actually read topography maps. I went downstate yesterday to visit a friend, after being a bit lazy this morning. We decided to go for a trail run. I should state, that once upon a time, I was the long distance runner between the two of us. But the student has become the master and he now runs ultras for fun. The most unfortunate part of all, is that he's good and can run farther faster than I ever will. Because of all of this, I was a bit hesitant to run with him, but he is more patient than I am stubborn (which I didn't think was possible) so I went for it. We got to Bear Mt. State park around 11:30 and headed out on the Long Path Trail (creative) the trail was beautiful but ended up being far to steep for me to run
1. Because I am embarrassingly out of shape (don't let the petite body fool you)
2. I don't have health insurance and the thought of slipping and injuring myself kept me making smarter decisions.
Instead, I enjoyed a nice scenic walk, with a lot of hills. So while I definitely didn't get the distance in I wanted, I still atleast got a good workout. Next time I'll study the map a little bit closer before agreeing to go trail running.
